Deleting an eSIM or Moving It to a New Phone: What to Know
What happens if you delete a travel eSIM, can you move it to a new phone, and what to watch out for when switching phones? A short guide to avoid losing data.

An eSIM may feel like an app, but it is actually a single-use line profile downloaded to your phone. That is why decisions about deleting or moving it need care.
What happens if I delete it?
Most travel eSIMs can be installed only once. Once you delete the profile, the same QR code usually will not work again and any remaining data may become unusable. So:
- If you have a problem, try the troubleshooting steps before deleting.
- If your plan is used up and you will not use it again, you can delete it to keep your line list tidy.
Turn it off instead
You do not need to delete the eSIM after your trip. Turn the line off in Settings; if the plan is still valid, you can switch it back on for your next trip.
Moving to a new phone
- The “eSIM transfer” features carriers offer for their own eSIMs usually do not work for travel eSIMs.
- If you are changing phones, the smoothest option is to finish your plan and buy a new one for the new phone.
- Before resetting or selling a phone, remember to delete old eSIMs.
