How to Install an eSIM: Step-by-Step QR Code Setup Guide
Installing an eSIM with a QR code takes just minutes. Pre-install checks, iPhone and Android steps, manual installation and the settings to change on arrival.

Installing an eSIM can look daunting the first time, but it really takes just a few minutes. This guide covers every step from start to finish.
Before you install
- Make sure your phone is eSIM compatible and carrier unlocked.
- Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network; installation needs internet.
- Open the QR code on another screen (computer or tablet) or print it.
Step-by-step installation
- Open your QR code from the My eSIMs page or your e-mail.
- Go to Settings on your phone and find the add eSIM menu.
- Scan the QR code with the camera and confirm.
- Give the line a label such as “Travel” so you can recognise it.
- Stay on Wi-Fi until installation is complete.

If the QR code won’t scan: manual install
On the installation screen, tap “Enter details manually” and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code you were given.

- Turn on data roaming for the eSIM.
- Keep data roaming off on your main line.
