Travel Europe with One eSIM: A Multi-Country Guide
Interrail, city hopping or a road trip: how a regional Europe eSIM works, which countries it covers, how it differs from a country plan and how to choose.
Contents
In Europe it is easy to visit three or four countries in a week: Paris to Brussels by train, then Amsterdam, then a bus to Berlin… Instead of buying a new SIM at every border, you can stay connected along the whole route with a single regional eSIM plan.
How does a regional plan work?
Europe plans have agreements with local networks in the countries they cover. When you cross a border, your phone connects to the new country’s network automatically; no new QR code or settings needed.
Country plan or regional plan?
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| One country, 1–2 weeks | Country plan (usually cheaper) |
| Two or more countries | Regional Europe plan |
| Europe + Turkey or the Balkans | Check the plan’s country list |
| Europe + Asia or the Americas |
Read the coverage list carefully
- Non-EU countries such as the UK, Switzerland and Norway may not be included in every plan.
- Microstates such as Monaco, Andorra, San Marino and Vatican City should be checked separately.
- For Balkan routes, Balkans plans may be a better fit.
Travel tips
- Keep Interrail and Eurail passes in the app; on-board Wi-Fi is not always reliable.
- The connection may drop briefly at border crossings; that is normal.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to do anything when I cross a border?
No. As long as data roaming is on, the phone connects to the new network by itself.
Does the plan run out per country?
No, it is a single plan; data and validity are shared across all covered countries.
