Does an eSIM plan’s validity start at installation or at first connection? Validity rules, how days are counted and a practical way to pick the right duration.
Contents
When choosing a plan, validity is just as important as GB. When does the clock start on a plan that says “7 days”? It depends on the plan.
When does validity start?
| Plan rule | Validity starts |
|---|---|
| On first connection (most common) | When you first connect to a network in the destination |
| On installation | When the eSIM profile is installed on the phone |
| On purchase | When payment is completed (rare) |
You can see this rule in the plan details. If no rule is stated, most plans on our site start on first connection.
How are days counted?
Validity is usually counted in hours: a 7-day plan is valid for 7 × 24 hours from first connection. There is no midnight cut-off.
Choosing the right duration
- Count your travel days and include arrival and departure days.
- For long trips, one 30-day plan is usually cheaper than two 15-day plans.
- Visiting several countries? Look at regional plans.
